Onion seed oils contained about 9.24-17.72g of saturated fatty acids, 26.44-31.66 of monounsaturated fatty acids and 50.59-61.08g of polyunsaturated fatty acids per 100g total fatty acids. These seed oils had high PUFA contents.
The main fatty acid of this seed oils was linoleic acid (18:2n-6) at a level of 49.42–60.46% g/100g of total fatty acids.
The second and third most abundant fatty acids were oleic acid (18:1n-9) at a concentration ranging from 26.44 to 31.52 g/100g and palmitic acid (16:0) at 7.23-12.2 g/100g total fatty acids, respectively. Oleic acid is very significant in nervous cell construction.
Onions are rich in sulfur, contains Vitamins A, C, E and B-complex. Its anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties help fight acne, reduce cough and phlegm, and heal wounds.
