Ocimum basilicum (sweet basil) belongs to the family Lamiaceae, which includes about 200 species occur in various botanic varieties and forms. 

It is found that this oil can do miracle in cosmetic industry.

Linalool was found to be the main component as 45.7% in the oil. The other important constituents were eugenol (13.4”/0), methyl eugenol (9.57%), fenchyl alcohol (3.64%) and 1, lcineole and cis-ocimene (3.00%). Most percentage of the oil was composed of oxygenated compounds.

Sweet basil is extensively used in aromatherapy due to its refreshing fragrance, which stimulates energy and uplifts the soul.
